Crochet Girls Earflap Hat

This is the hat pattern for girls I came up with to give to the 4 th grade girls in my daughters students and the school as well as the Indian Reservation. It is easy and quick and that made easy for me to do many fast so that they would have something for their heads when it got really cold this winter. Many at the school didn't have hats so this along with the stocking caps for boys is what was made.

Materials:
4 ply worsted weight yarn
J hook

Ch 3 join to form a ring
Rnd 1 Ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc now and through out) 9 hdc in ring (10hdc) join in top of Ch 2 with a ss
Rnd 2 Ch 2 hdc in same st 2hdc in ea hdc around (20hdc) join in top of beg ch2
Rnd 3 Ch 2 hdc in same st *1hdc in next hdc 2 hdc in next hdc repeat from* around join in top of ch2 (30hdc)
Rnd 4 Ch 2 hdc in same st *1hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc repeat from* around join in top of ch2 (40hdc)
Rnd 5 Ch 2 hdc in same st *1hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, repeat from* around join in top of ch2 (50hdc)
Rnd 6 Ch 2 hdc in ea hdc around join in top of ch2 (50hdc)
Rnd 7-9 Ch 3 dc in ea hdc around join in top of ch3 (50dc)
Rnd 10-15 Ch 3 dc in next 4 dc, *fpdc around next 5 dc, dc in next 5 dc, repeat from* around join in top of ch 3 (25dc,25fpdc)
Now working in rows
Row 16 Earflap Ch 3 dc in next 7 st (8st) Ch 1 turn
Row 17 dc dec over 1st 2 sts dc in ea st to 2 last sts dc dec in last 2 sts Ch 1 turn
Row 18 dc dec over 1st 2 sts, dc in ea st to 2 last sts dc dec in last 2 sts Ch 1 turn
Row 19 dc dec over 1st 2 sts. dc dec over last 2 sts Ch 1 turn
Row 20 sc dec the 2 sts together Ch 1 turn
Row 21 sc in st Ch 40 fasten off join yarn with slip stitch on opposite of hat across from earflap just made
Repeat Row 16-21 on opposite side of hat for other earflap

To make bigger hat Ch 12 at beginning and to make warmer hold to strands of yarn together and use k hook

Gluten And Corn Free Hamburger Potato Skillet

This is a quick dish that makes a variation on plain hamburger and potatoes. One of the hardest things to do eating gluten free is finding a variety and not the same thing over and over again. This is a delicious easy dish.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs groundbeef
1/4 bag Mr Dell potatoes ( I used the southern style frozen)
Pacifica Creamy Tomato soup or any gluten and corn free tomato soup
garlic salt to taste
pepper to taste
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
pepper jack cheese

Brown the ground beef and drain. While browning meat cook frozen potatos as it says on package. When potatoes are done combine in same skillet as hamburger. Add the garlic salt and pepper and the tomato soup for sauce. Cook on low till they are well combined and hot. Add the shredded cheese and melt in. Put enough cheese to thicken the sauce and to your taste. Put into a cassarole dish and melt the pepper jack cheese over top. If you don't want it spicey you can melt more cheddar over top and serve.

Hats for warmth

I haven't added anything for awhile but I have been busy. We have had some very cold days here in KC and my daughter teaches 4th grade. Many if not all of her students were coming to school with out hats and gloves on and this broke my heart. I got busy and in 4 days had made a stocking hat for each of them in here class, 20 hats. Then I realize many in the school didn't have any either so it is back to work and as of right now I have made 7 more hats and working on more for the others in the school who need them. I also made so far 23 hats for the American Indian reservation in SD where the actual temps have been -28degrees. These are simple easy hats to make and that is the key to getting many done at once. Check the need in your area and maybe you can help out to
